BCI Battery Group Sizes

BCI (Battery Council International) group numbers define the case footprint and terminal layout of North American automotive batteries. This section documents the common group sizes as standard references.

Standard reference — not a stock listing

The Battery Models section lists Chengguang's listed JIS and DIN/EN stock models. This section documents BCI group sizes as standard references; these groups are supplied as an OEM / private-label development on request.

Common BCI Groups

Group Dimensions (L × W × H) Typical Capacity Typical CCA Terminal Typical applications
Group 24 260 × 173 × 225 mm ~70 Ah ~600 A SAE SAE top post Passenger cars, light trucks, marine/RV
Group 27 306 × 173 × 225 mm ~90 Ah ~800 A SAE SAE top post Larger cars, SUVs, light trucks
Group 31 330 × 173 × 240 mm ~100 Ah ~925 A SAE Post / stud Trucks, buses, heavy-duty commercial
4D 527 × 222 × 251 mm ~140 Ah ~1,100 A SAE Stud / bolt Heavy trucks, buses, construction
8D 527 × 283 × 251 mm ~200 Ah ~1,400 A SAE Stud / bolt Heavy trucks, off-highway, large marine

Typical values

Group dimensions are standardised; capacity and CCA are typical ranges that vary by manufacturer and technology (SLI / EFB / AGM). CCA is test-method dependent (SAE at −18 °C). Confirm the datasheet for any specific product.

BCI Group Numbers vs JIS / DIN Names

BCI group numbers carry no performance information — a group number defines only the footprint and terminal layout. This is the opposite of the JIS naming rule, where the numeric prefix is a capacity/performance grade. Two batteries in the same BCI group can differ widely in capacity and CCA.

For the standard families, see the standards guides: JIS, DIN, BCI.

OEM & Private Label Availability

BCI groups are supplied by Chengguang Power Tech Co., Ltd. as an OEM / private-label development on request — specification, sampling and packaging are confirmed per project. See the OEM site for the process, or request a quote.
